Sarah Blakley

Fine Artist

A Bit About Me

Sarah Blakley (b. 1998, New York) received her B.F.A in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design in spring of the year 2020. Blakley’s work is primarily created through the use of oil paints, aiming to depict her subjects through stylistic realism. She paints to capture her extensive studies of biblical themes, such as the importance of immaculacy, mercy, and obedience through love. She works through both imagery and poetry. She has exhibited her work at the Henny Penny Café, as fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society while studying in the city of Savannah in 2019. She has also participated in a small works exhibition in the local CorkHouse Gallery. She has since had four group exhibitions and three solo exhibits in Augusta, GA from 2020-23.

Sarah Blakley's artwork takes a critical and personal view of biblical themes related to current society. The process often begins with biblical studies and writing; leading her work to explore the relationship between her personal experiences, floral symbolism and interpretations of varying verses. Having explored subjects as the history of symbolism in fine art, obedience, and Christ’s love, her work reproduces familiar visual symbols, arranging them into new conceptually representational paintings. Blakley is consistent in primarily working in oils, as homage to traditional painting. The subject matter of each body of work is determined by whatever biblical theme is being studied at the time. Each project often consists of multiple works, grouped around specific themes and meanings that relate to one another.

Currently, Blakley is working on an extensive series named Remembering in Augusta, GA.
